I always knew what a great, huge and interesting history we - as egyptians, muslims- have. Each day I realise it more and more.
Today was one of those days.
I've been to a Mosque in el Darb el Ahmar ( Old Cairo) that i've never been to. It's called the Blue Mosque.
Starting my day wondering through the streets of old Cairo starting at Bab Zeweela (its one of the gates of old cairo). It was a prison and they used to hang the prisoners or enemies on the walls there, to be made an example to the people. Most of the well known and amazing mosques in old cairo where build in the times where the (Mamaleek) ruled, that is around 13th century and they ruled about 350 years.
ANYWAY the view of cairo, the architecture of the gates, the mosque... just amazing
down the street you'll keep finding old mosques going back to the mamaleek period in egypt. Again, the architecture, the stained glass works, the whole atmosphere is breath taking.
Until you reach the blue mosque. Its walls are covered in blue ceramics. Each piece with a diffrent design, yet together they make sense. The mosque hasn't been renewed yet, so looks about the same from the time it was build, more or less ..

If you live in Cairo, or gonna visit it soon, I advice you to go.
Sallam
